Pedaler 2.0 Results

October 30, 2016: When we ordered the t-shirts for Pedaler 2.0 the Monday prior to the ride, 58 people had registered - a modest increase over last year's 42. By the time the first group of riders left 400 West Rich, shortly after noon, there were 130 riders registered! Our goal was to break 100, with a realistic capacity of 150, so we knocked our goal out of the park. More importantly, with the help of our hosts, riders, and volunteers, we were able to gross over $2,800 for Central Ohio autism charities - THANK YOU!

Sunday, October 23 was the date we chose for the Second Annual Pumpkin Pedaler Bicycle Poker Run back in March, and we couldn't have bought a better day in late October. Mother Nature did her part to make sure that the riders had a beautiful ride - we were all shedding layers as the day went on.

We've had the opportunity to review the post-ride surveys that have completed, and would love to see more come in. We took many of the recommendations from 2015 into consideration as we planned this year's ride, and still have some room to improve: we're already planning better defined routes with more extensive signage to help the 2017 ride go off without a hitch.

Thanks to all of our Pedalers for making 2016 a year to remember for our humble organization. We have some big announcements coming up in November, so stay tuned!

May 19th Kiva Zip Funding Update

I wanted to take a moment this evening to thank everyone who has contributed to our Kiva Zip campaign so far. Less than a week of public fundraising and we are nearly to 40%! Thank you to the generosity of Capital One, who has been matching individual contributions up to $100.

Natalie

Tonight I wanted to share a bit of our story with you. Our daughter, pictured here, will be eight in September. Last March, she was diagnosed on the autism spectrum as high functioning, or what was previously called Asperger's Syndrome. As she has grown as a young lady, we noticed some of her social interaction was odd or forced and had worried about some of her compulsive behavior. The autism diagnosis was a shock to us, but it was also a relief. Fortunately, with applied behavioral therapy and special care, she is thriving at school and enjoys a variety of extra curricular activities. Cycling is something she loves, and Halloween is her favorite holiday - so the Pumpkin Pedaler was born out of her favorite things.

Our event is more than a ride - it is a way for our Foundation to engage Columbus in a discussion about autism awareness. So many people who have a child with special needs seem afraid to acknowledge it or discuss it - this needs to change! Our ride gives an opportunity for the autism community and the cycling community to get together and enjoy a casual, late fall ride in support of autism awareness, education, and research. Last year, I financed the bulk of the ride myself, with help from several key private donors. This year, I'm asking for YOUR help! Share this Kiva Zip Campaign with your friends, let's get it funded and make Pedaler 2.0 one for the record books!

FUSIAN Joins Pedaler 2.0 in Grandview

Ichabod and the Pedaler Team are thrilled to announce that FUSIAN (www.fusian.com) will host the Grandview stop in the 2016 Pumpkin Pedaler Bicycle Poker Run. Their Grandview location on 5th, one of four in Columbus, is easy to find and easy to fall in love with. The sushi slingers will have a VIP tent set up for the pedalers out front with samples of their amazing rolls.

Childhood friends Zach Weprin, Josh Weprin and Stephan Harman love sushi. It was during their college careers that they saw a need for a simple, fresh, and affordable sushi dining option. With this as their inspiration, they set out to create that experience. FUSIAN opened in May of 2010 as a place where discerning diners can customize sushi rolls in a fun, interactive, and energetic environment.

FUSIAN: Grandview is located at 855 W 5th Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43212. They will be open from 11am until 10pm on the day of the Pedaler.

The North Market Signs on a Second Year

Ichabod and the team got confirmation this week that our friends at the North Market (www.northmarket.com) will be hosting the final stop on the 2016 Pumpkin Pedaler Bicycle Poker Run. As with last year, the volunteers will be found in the parking lot near the east entrance to the Market. From Hot Chicken Takeover to Jeni's Ice Cream, and dozens more, the Spruce Street staple is home to many of Columbus's favorite merchants. We couldn't be happier to welcome this landmark back for a second year!

Founded in 1876, the North Market is Columbus’ only remaining public market. It is the historical home of local butchers, bakers, fishmongers, greengrocers and farmers. Over the years our merchant offerings have expanded to include ethnic foods, gourmet groceries and unique gifts. The Market is managed by North Market Development Authority, a 501(c)(3) organization. It is a true public market that preserves and renews a unique experience for all members of the community by nurturing local merchant entrepreneurship, providing fresh and abundant food and food-related merchandise, sponsoring seasonal festivals and through the preservation of a historic public facility.

The North Market is located at 59 Spruce St, Columbus, Ohio 43215. They will be open from 10am until 5pm on the day of the Pedaler.

Blue Spectrum Performs at the Big Room Bar

Everyone at the Pumpkin Pedaler is thrilled to announce that the CD102.5 Big Room Bar (www.bigroombar.com) will be hosting the Brewery District stop for Pedaler 2.0. Not only will the gang at the Big Room be serving brunch from 11am to 4pm during the ride, but we have a very special treat. Our great friends at Blue Spectrum will be performing all afternoon. It is truly a pleasure to announce this collaboration to benefit autism awareness in our community!

This show will be provided free of charge. We invite the general public to join riders in the Pumpkin Pedaler to rock out to the blues riffs of Zayne Harshaw, Brandon Williamson, Amelia Walsh, Clarence Bowles, and Alan Jefferson. The Blue Spectrum family lives by their mission statement: "Life is not to be viewed through the single lens of a diagnosis but to be lived through the Spectrum of potential, promise and purpose."

The Big Room Bar is located at 1036 S Front St, Columbus, Ohio 43206. They will be open from 11am until 4pm on the day of the Pedaler.

Seventh Son Brewing Company Hosts Italian Village Stop

Ichabod and the Team are thrilled to announce that Seventh Son Brewing Company (www.seventhsonbrewing.com), a staple in the Italian Village community for over three years, will be hosting the second stop on the 2016 Pumpkin Pedaler Bicycle Poker Run. Our goal was to include a stop in this up and coming neighborhood in the near east area of Columbus, and Italian Village's original brewers were our first choice!

Seventh Son's taproom and brewing house features a large indoor bar, two patio spaces, and food truck service. The beer on tap changes frequently and features seasonal favorites and experimental drafts not available anywhere else. They can be found on the web, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Seventh Son's Taproom is located at 1101 N 4th St, Columbus, Ohio 43201. They will be open from 11am until midnight on the day of the Pedaler.

2016 Pumpkin Pedaler Bicycle Poker Run

Ichabod is thrilled to announce the 2016 Pumpkin Pedaler Bicycle Poker Run, to be held on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at noon. Our friends at Land-Grant Brewing Company have graciously offered to host the base of operations for a second year, so we will meet in Franklinton, with event day registration starting at 11am.

Thank you to all of last year's participants who completed our survey, and a special thank you to those who met with us to give feedback on the ride. You spoke, and we listened! As a direct result of your feedback, we have made some changes to the tour for this year.

  • First and foremost, Registration has been reduced to $25 for an adult rider and $15 for minors (13+, accompanied by an adult). T-shirts will be available for purchase on the website for an additional $10.
  • The Standard Route will remain at approximately fifteen miles to accommodate casual riders. Many of last year's more serious riders requested more miles, so there will be a "mileage loop" between stops one and two to add an additional ten miles featuring the Olentangy Trail and additional city riding to the route. This Extended Route is available at no extra charge - simply indicate which route you intend to take when you register. There will be ride leaders for both routes.
  • For 2016, we added a Team Fundraising category for the competition. When you register, you will have the option to start or join a team. Within forty-eight hours of team formation, the team will be added to the PumpkinPedaler.com website for the competition. Teams will compete by purchasing apparel, other products, and by collecting donations through our shop. All transactions count towards your team's total, and the leader board is displayed right on the site as orders are processed.

The planned route will lead riders from Franklinton into Grandview. From the first stop in Grandview, the Standard Route will go directly to Italian Village for stop two, while the Extended Route will head north into Clintonville, following the Olentangy River before joining the other riders at the second stop. Riders will all continue into Downtown for stop three, followed by a stop in German Village. The last stop will be in the Market District, and the Finish Line will be at Land-Grant's Taproom. This years route will feature some of Columbus's new and refurbished bike trails, as well as city streets.

Prize categories for 2016 will be Grand Prize (Best Poker Hand), Worst Poker Hand, Most Interesting Wheels, and Top Team Donation. Surprise door prizes will also be awarded in a similar fashion to last year.

Registration begins on March 31, 2016. Bring your friends!
