With each year, the goal of the Pedaler Team is to make the next Pumpkin Pedaler better than the last. Our significant growth between the first two years was amazing - but also exposed some flaws in our event planning. This year marks some changes to the event based on previous riders' comments and logistics challenges posed by the numerous construction projects throughout Columbus.

  • The 2017 Pumpkin Pedaler starts and ends downtown. The Elevator 13th Floor Taproom is hosting our registration and starting line, while Pins Mechanical Company is hosting the finishing line. Parking is available at several lots on 4th Street across from these two locations, as well as limited on-street meter parking. Pins has donated three hours of duckpin bowling on at least three of their lanes for our pedalers to enjoy while they wait for fellow riders to complete the course.
  • The registration process has been improved. After last year's significant growth, we have made some changes to online and in person registration. Checking-in on ride day will be much more streamlined. This year, online registration will end at 6pm on October 20th. If you plan to register the day of the ride, we recommend arriving early - there will be a dedicated lane for this process.
  • Register early to guarantee your t-shirt size. Our t-shirt order goes to the printers on October 6th. The first 150 registered riders will receive a ride t-shirt, and anyone who registers prior to October 6th will get their choice of t-shirt size. The balance of the 150 t-shirts, if applicable, will be ordered based on demand from previous years. Anyone who registers after October 6th will get their choice from available sizes on a first come, first served basis.
  • There will be one route, and it will be well marked. Although not set in stone yet, the 2017 route will run primarily east-west, and will avoid the construction throughout the Short North and Campus areas on High Street. Each turn will be marked on the road and all stops will be marked with sandwich boards visible from the route. Paper maps with directions will be available at the registration table on ride day. The Grandview Avenue hill will likely be a part of the ride again this year, but riders will descend instead of climb (whew!). Special care is being taken to avoid extended brick surfaces for riders with narrow tires.
  • The Pumpkin Pedaler is shorter? As astute pedalers may have noticed, the ride is starting an hour later - registration will commence at noon, and the first wave of riders are pedals up at 12:40pm sharp. This is for several reasons - first, our hosts at Elevator open at noon, so this will allow pedalers a place to congregate before the ride. As importantly, the Pedaler Team noticed that there was a lot of down time at the end of previous rides. We hope that coupled with the entertainment available at Pins, the shorter timeframe will be more enjoyable for the participants.
